Hey there, I'm Jessie...

Photographer, storyteller & lover of light, dust and the moments in between.

I’m Jessie.

Photographer, storyteller and visual artist, with more than 14 years behind the lens and a lifetime shaped by rural Australia.

I grew up in the Northern Territory, living on cattle stations and learning country life from the inside out. Cattle, horses, trucks, dust, long days, big distances and the people who call these places home — they’re not subjects I discovered through photography. They’re part of who I am.

For much of the past 16 years, I’ve called Queensland cattle country home. Along the way I founded Dusty Creek, building a rural brand from my photography and storytelling into something recognised by people across Australia. But long before the clothing, parcels and business, there was a girl with a camera documenting the life around her.

And that’s where I’ve found myself again.

I notice the things others might drive past.

Dust hanging behind a cattle truck. The rhythm of a walking mob. Golden light across the back of a Brahman. A good work dog waiting for the next command. Weathered hands, old buildings, loud families, quiet moments and the characters you don’t forget.

After all these years, I still believe the best photographs aren't manufactured. They happen when you understand where to stand, when to wait, when to move — and when to simply let life unfold in front of you.

My work is documentary at heart. Sometimes it’s fast and covered in dust. Sometimes it’s a family, a business, a portrait or a place. Sometimes it’s an ordinary moment that nobody realises will matter until years later.

Today, I work under my own name — Jessie Townsend — photographing people, places, businesses and rural life with the same approach I’ve always had: keep it real, pay attention to the details and tell the story honestly.

Because ultimately, that’s what I want my photographs to do.

Show you what happened. Remind you how it felt. And preserve a little piece of it before the moment passes.
